🏰 A £2.4M Category A Listed 17th Century Castle near Edinburgh with a Stone Vaulted Crypt

Castle Gogar, 180 Glasgow Road, Edinburgh | £2,400,000

Castle Gogar is a Category A listed, L plan Scottish Baronial mansion, built in 1625 and commissioned by Sir John Cowper, to a design by William Ayton. It offers 8 bedrooms, 7 bathrooms and 9,406 sq ft, in about 3.65 acres on the western outskirts of Edinburgh, around 7 miles from the city centre.

The ground floor has a stone vaulted crypt and family room and a dining kitchen by Clive Christian, with new oak panelling. Upstairs, the first floor has a dining room with painted murals and a double bow ended drawing room.

The third floor holds the principal suite, with an en suite shower room and a dressing room that has its own en suite bathroom and sauna. Three en suite double bedrooms sit on the second floor.

Outstanding Feature: The architecture. There are turrets with arrow slits, turnpike staircases and inglenook fireplaces with engraved family crests, and at the top of the tower two storerooms lead to access onto the roof parapet.

The gardens have lawns, a large patio terrace and an original stone well, and a tarmac drive runs through electric gates to a turning circle. There are four stables and grass paddocks of about 1.66 acres, and an early 18th century annex, Castle Gogar Cottage, with two double bedrooms, which has been run as a holiday let.

🏡 A £3.45M Grade II Listed Cheshire Hall on 26.67 Acres with a Lake

Tushingham Hall, Willeymoor Lane, Whitchurch, Cheshire | £3,450,000

Tushingham Hall is a Grade II listed country house with a 17th century core. It was built as a moated farmhouse, significantly updated and remodelled in the early 19th century, and has a Tudor Revival façade. It offers 6 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, 4 reception rooms and 6,321 sq ft, in about 26.67 acres.

The reception rooms are well proportioned and overlook the gardens, lake and land, and there is a spacious kitchen and family living space.

The current owners bought the hall in 2023 and comprehensively modernised it, and the bedrooms are spread across the upper floors.

Outstanding Feature: The lake. It lies to the south of the house and is a wildlife haven, with far reaching views from the lakeside setting.

A sweeping drive crosses the parkland to the hall, and the established gardens have formal lawns that merge into pasture, with mature trees. A range of traditional outbuildings next to the hall offers ancillary accommodation, storage and workshop space, and the land is suited to grazing, equestrian use or conservation.
